Most upcoming Marvel movies, including ones on new heroes, are familiar enough to fit into the Marvel formula, but Eternals is the one film that could break the mold. How it all plays out remains to be seen, but Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will feel fresh for fans who are perhaps jaded with all the sorcerers, aliens, and gods in the franchise. In this story, Shang-Chi is the Mandarin's son, but there's still the notion of him fighting his destiny to take over the villain organization. The first trailer for Shang-Chi finally released in April 2021 and it showcased a slightly different storyline from the comics. Tony Leung stars as the Mandarin, with Awkwafina as Shang-Chi's friend Katy, Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, Fala Chen as Jiang Li, Florian Munteanu as Razor Fist, and more, including an unknown actor as the villain Death Dealer. They appeared in Iron Man and Iron Man 3, but instead of having a fictitious leader at the forefront, this time Marvel is including the real Mandarin, named Wenwu. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Simu Liu as the titular Shang-Chi, the film introduces one of the best fighters from Marvel Comics while also bringing back one of the first villain organizations in the MCU: the Ten Rings.
